Challenge and Opportunity to Revive the Economy<\/span><\/h3>\n

Nepal\u2019s economy is currently going through a sluggish phase. Banks are holding excess loanable funds, but demand for private-sector credit remains weak. Enthusiasm in industry and business has declined, the construction sector is slowing, youth migration abroad is accelerating, and government capital expenditure has not been effective. Therefore, the upcoming budget must adopt policies that simplify the tax system, create an investment-friendly environment, and make it easier for industries and businesses to operate.<\/span><\/p>\n

Youth-focused small and medium enterprises should be given priority.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs), particularly those focused on youth, need to be prioritized. In Nepal, this sector generates a significant share of employment, yet it is currently the most affected by the economic slowdown. Therefore, the government needs to introduce concrete programs such as concessional loans, tax incentives, improved access to technology, and better market management.<\/span><\/p>\n

The agriculture sector is another important area. Although Nepal is still considered an agriculture-based country, youth interest in farming is steadily declining. Every year, a large budget is announced, but spending on development and infrastructure projects remains ineffective. The recurring trend of rushing expenditures during the final months of the fiscal year has often raised concerns over quality and transparency. Therefore, the upcoming budget must prioritize reforming the spending system and ensuring transparency in project selection.<\/span><\/p>\n

The migration of young people abroad has now become one of Nepal\u2019s biggest socio-economic challenges. Due to the lack of opportunities within the country, thousands of youths leave Nepal every day for foreign employment. Therefore, the budget should prioritize job creation, startup promotion, skill development, and innovation. An economy that relies mainly on remittances from foreign employment cannot be considered sustainable in the long term.<\/span><\/p>\n

Social security spending is also becoming increasingly challenging for Nepal. A large portion of state resources is being spent on allowances and distribution-oriented programs.
