Dr. Vishwo Paudel is about to be appointed as the governor of the central bank, following his resignation from the selection committee.

Dr. Vishwa Paudel is likely to be appointed as the Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank after a long interval. . He was previously a member of the Governor Recommendation Committee, the Nepali Congress had earlier agreed on the name of Dr. Gunakar Bhatta for the position of Deputy Governor, but his resignation was not approved by the acting Governor Nirakar Dhungana. The Congress then started looking for an alternative candidate.

Dr. Paudel submitted his resignation to the Chairman of the Governor Selection Committee and Finance Minister Vishnu Prasad Paudel on Sunday. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had agreed on Dr. Paudel’s nomination as the Governor during their discussion on Saturday.

Dr. Paudel was earlier appointed as a member of the 18th Governor Selection Committee in the second week of Chaitra. However, he resigned from the committee without a single meeting being held.

Previously, the Congress had agreed on appointing Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, the Executive Director of the Nepal Rastra Bank, as the Governor. But Bhatta’s resignation was not approved by the acting Governor , leading Deuba to withdraw his support. A writ has also been filed against another committee member, Mahaprasad Adhikari, in the Supreme Court. Now, the government will form a new selection committee.
