No Personal Appointees at Nepal Rastra Bank, Only Merit-Based Selection: PM Oli

Kathmandu– Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has affirmed that the appointment of the next Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank will be based solely on merit, not personal connections. Speaking at the official launch of the Former Planners’ Forum Nepal, PM Oli made it clear that he has no intention of recommending anyone personally affiliated with him for the role.

“I have no one to place in the Rastra Bank,” said Oli. “The goal is to appoint a capable individual based on meritocracy. If someone can do the job well, the country will benefit. I don’t need ‘my person’ there. Yes, I am the Prime Minister, but I am not the only one in the government. That’s why I try to prioritize merit as much as possible.”

His remarks reinforce the importance of competency and professional qualifications in high-level appointments, reflecting a shift towards institutional integrity and performance-driven leadership.
