Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, who recently tendered his resignation as Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank, has stated that he has not left the country permanently and will be returning soon. Speaking from the United States, Dr. Bhatta clarified that he traveled abroad solely to attend a program and intends to return to Nepal shortly.
Dr. Bhatta’s name had been under active discussion for the position of Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. Although he submitted his resignation from his current post, it has not yet been approved. Acting Governor Neelam Dhungana has withheld approval of the resignation, following which reports surfaced of the ruling coalition exploring alternative candidates.
Amid growing speculation regarding his departure and future role, Dr. Bhatta’s statement reassures that his visit to the U.S. is temporary and not a departure from public service in Nepal.
