Cabinet Meeting Scheduled; NRB Governor Appointment Likely Today

Banking Khabar | Kathmandu

A Cabinet meeting is set to take place this evening at 6 PM, called by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. According to sources, a key agenda of the meeting includes the potential appointment of the new Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

Before the appointment can be finalized, the recommendation committee is required to convene and submit a shortlist of three candidates for the governor’s position. However, it is widely speculated that the ruling coalition—comprising the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—has already reached a consensus to appoint Dr. Bishwo Paudel as the next Governor.

In anticipation of his selection, Dr. Paudel has already resigned from his position on the recommendation committee. The current committee is chaired by Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, with former NRB Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari and economist Dr. Posh Raj Pandey serving as members.

If confirmed, the appointment is expected to bring a new phase of leadership to Nepal’s central bank at a critical time for economic recovery and monetary stability.
