Governor Paudel: We Will Move Forward with a ‘Less Regulation, More Supervision’ Policy

Banking News – Newly appointed Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Dr. Bishwanath Paudel, has officially assumed office. Upon taking charge, he stated that the central bank will prioritize supervision over excessive regulation.

“We will proceed with a ‘less regulation, more supervision’ approach,” said Governor Paudel, emphasizing that the focus should not be on creating numerous rules but on ensuring effective oversight.

He added that monetary policy will support the implementation of government budget goals through appropriate policy frameworks. However, rather than tightening control over banks with rigid rules, the aim will be to ensure their security through necessary safeguards.

Highlighting that a large portion of public funds is held within banks and financial institutions, Governor Paudel said the central bank will work toward introducing strong lending policies to protect those institutions and public deposits.
