Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Paudel Meets PBOC Governor Pan Gongsheng

Banking Khabar / Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Prof. Dr. Bishwanath Paudel held a meeting with Governor Pan Gongsheng of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) . The meeting took place on the sidelines of the “20th Asia-Pacific High-Level Meeting on Banking Supervision,” organized by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Tianjin, China.

During the meeting, the two governors discussed opportunities and challenges related to cross-border payments, investment, and cooperation between Nepal and China. They also exchanged views on emerging practices in the financial sector, innovation, and the benefits of technological advancements, along with other contemporary issues requiring bilateral cooperation.

Discussions were also held on facilitating QR code–based payments and reducing transaction costs for citizens of both countries during cross-border travel. On the occasion, PBOC Governor Pan stated that the Chinese central bank is ready to cooperate in the modernization of electronic payment systems, as well as in enhancing collaboration and technical exchange.

During his visit to China, Governor Paudel emphasized the need for continued cooperation, coordination, and communication between the two central banks, expressing Nepal Rastra Bank’s readiness to play a proactive role in this regard.

The meeting was attended by Director General Zhou Yu of the International Department of the People’s Bank of China. Representing Nepal Rastra Bank were Executive Director Dirgha Bahadur Rawal of the Bank Supervision Department and Assistant Director Roshan Neupane from the Governor’s Office.
