Banking Khabar / Around one thousand participants across Kathmandu and Pokhara came together on World Environment Day 2026 to take part in Run for the Environment 2026: Ek Paila Watawaran ko Lagi, a simultaneous 6-kilometer solidarity run organized by Doko Foundation in support with United Nations in Nepal.
The event transformed public spaces in both cities into vibrant platforms for environmental awareness, climate action, and community participation. More than just a run, the initiative brought together youth, families, artists, professionals, organizations, and environmental advocates in a collective expression of responsibility toward a more sustainable future.
A key highlight of the event was its creative integration of sustainability and art. Recycled and repurposed materials were thoughtfully incorporated throughout the event experience, including artistic installations and engagement spaces that encouraged participants to reflect on waste management and environmental responsibility in an interactive and accessible way. Event materials and promotional elements also reflected a conscious effort toward reuse and circularity, including locally upcycled participant medals made from reused plastic materials.
The simultaneous participation from Kathmandu and Pokhara carried a meaningful message of solidarity and collective climate awareness, demonstrating growing public engagement around sustainability issues across communities in Nepal.
The event was made possible through the support of United Nations in Nepal, Fonepay, eSewa, F1Soft, and ACCA, whose collaboration helped strengthen the campaign’s outreach and impact. Doko Foundation expressed gratitude to all participants, volunteers, partners, artists, and supporters who contributed to making the event a success. The organization emphasized that environmental action begins with small but collective efforts, and initiatives like Run for the Environment demonstrate the power of communities coming together with a shared purpose. Run for the Environment 2026 stands as a reminder that sustainability is not only a policy discussion, but a community movement shaped by participation, creativity, and everyday action.
