Banks and Financial Institutions (BFIs) play an important role in promoting inclusive growth in any country. The banking sector would always be the most important sector in the field of business because of its credibility in supporting manufacturing, infrastructural development and even being the backbone for the growth of the economy.
Banks and financial institutions often take lead role in providing innovative financial services to corporate and Small, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sectors and contribute in the development of an economy through employment generation, wealth creation and bank credit in rural segments to uplift the financially weaker sections of the society.
The financial market has changed dramatically in the last few decades. Banking has crossed the national boundaries, moved away from traditional functions to multi‐dimensional functions governed by new innovations in products and services through the use of information technology. The rapid pace of transformation in the banking and financial market has also created enormous risks, security threats, fraud and crimes, and operational problems. Nepalese financial sector is not the exception. Nepalese finance institutions need to learn from the global trend in banking services, product innovations, use of financial technology in delivering services and the opportunities, challenges and threats emanating from these developments.
Keeping this in mind, BFIN is organizing a day conference on the topic “Banks and Financial Institutions: Emerging Challenges, Opportunities and Threats.” Eminent scholars on this subject from Bangladesh namely Dr. Atiur Rahman and from India Dr. Satish Chadra and Mr. B.
