Banking Khabar / Kathmandu — Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has initiated the process to mint and supply 300 million two-rupee coins, inviting international security minting companies to participate in a global tender.
The central bank’s Currency Management Department has called for bids from internationally qualified minting companies as part of its efforts to maintain an adequate supply of low-denomination coins and improve the management of coin reserves.
The latest tender comes shortly after NRB invited bids for the production and supply of 400 million one-rupee coins. With the two tenders issued on consecutive days, the central bank is moving ahead with plans to procure a combined 700 million coins in one- and two-rupee denominations.
The production and supply of the two-rupee coins will follow a single-stage, two-envelope bidding system. Participating companies will be required to submit their technical and financial proposals separately.
Interested bidders can purchase the tender documents by paying a non-refundable fee of NPR 20,000 until November 3, 2026. The fee may also be paid in foreign currency equivalent to USD 131 or EUR 115.
NRB has scheduled a pre-bid meeting for October 16, 2026, to provide clarification and address queries related to the tender process. The meeting will be held at the Currency Management Department in Thapathali, Kathmandu.
The deadline for submitting bids is 12 noon on November 4, 2026, while the submitted bids will be opened at 1 p.m. on the same day.
Companies participating in the tender must provide a bid security of USD 132,000, or an equivalent amount in foreign currency or Nepali rupees. The bids will remain valid for 120 days from the date of opening, while the bid security must remain valid until April 3, 2027.
The latest procurement initiative is aimed at ensuring the continued availability of small-denomination coins in circulation and strengthening NRB’s coin supply and reserve management.
