Weighted Average Interbank Interest Rate Drops to 3 Percent

 

Banking News – The weighted average interest rate of interbank transactions among banks and financial institutions stood at 3.00 percent in Chaitra 2081, slightly lower than 3.10 percent recorded in Chaitra 2080.

The 91-day Treasury Bill also saw a marginal increase in its weighted average interest rate, rising from 3.00 percent in Chaitra 2080 to 3.06 percent in Chaitra 2081.

In Chaitra 2081, the average base rate of commercial banks was 6.29 percent, compared to 8.51 percent in Chaitra 2080. Similarly, the base rate of development banks decreased from 10.41 percent to 8.34 percent, and that of finance companies declined from 12.02 percent to 9.17 percent over the same period.

The weighted average interest rate on deposits in Chaitra 2081 was:

4.45 percent for commercial banks

5.22 percent for development banks

6.24 percent for finance companies

This marks a decline from Chaitra 2080, when the rates were:

6.53 percent (commercial banks)

7.58 percent (development banks)

8.82 percent (finance companies)

Likewise, the weighted average lending rate in Chaitra 2081 was:

8.22 percent for commercial banks

9.59 percent for development banks

10.40 percent for finance companies

These figures represent a decrease from Chaitra 2080, where the lending rates stood at:

10.55 percent (commercial banks)

12.17 percent (development banks)

13.36 percent (finance companies)

This decline in both deposit and lending rates across the banking sector indicates an easing interest rate environment during the review period.
