Home Minister Sudan Gurung Resigns, Calls for Impartial Investigation

Banking Khabar / Home Minister Sudan Gurung has resigned from his post, urging authorities to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into allegations against him.

Facing widespread criticism over his alleged business partnership with a controversial entrepreneur and involvement in share transactions, Gurung submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Balen Shah earlier today.

Announcing his decision through Facebook, Gurung said he had taken the concerns raised by the public seriously. “I have been serving honestly as Home Minister since Chaitra 13, 2082. In recent days, I have taken public questions, comments, and concerns regarding my share-related matters very seriously,” he wrote.

Emphasizing ethics over position, he added, “For me, morality is greater than power, and there is no force stronger than public trust.” He also referenced the growing Gen Z-led movement demanding good governance, transparency, and accountability, saying it reflects the need for clean public life and responsible leadership.

Gurung stated that he himself had called for an investigation into the matter. He explained that stepping down was necessary to avoid any conflict of interest while inquiries are conducted.

“If questions are raised about a government built on the sacrifice of 46 of my brothers and sisters, the answer must be ethics,” he said. “Therefore, to ensure a fair investigation and to prevent any conflict of interest while holding office, I have resigned from the position of Home Minister, effective immediately.”

He further said he had fulfilled his moral responsibility and urged the public, especially youth and media professionals, to stand for truth, honesty, and integrity if genuine change is desired.

In a pointed remark, he also warned that details of share dealings involving some media personnel may gradually come to light, adding that those who aspire for an ideal state must also demonstrate sacrifice and moral courage.
