WorldLink Communications hit as order halts withdrawal of tax case.

Banking Khabar / The Supreme Court has issued an interim order halting the implementation of former Attorney General Savita Bhandari’s decision to withdraw a tax-related case involving WorldLink Communications.

A joint bench of Justices Binosh Sharma and Shrikant Paudel issued the order on Friday.

Former Attorney General Bhandari had decided to withdraw a case alleging that WorldLink caused a loss of nearly NPR 3 billion in state revenue. The case had been under prosecution following an investigation by the Inland Revenue Department, including the Large Taxpayers Office, into alleged tax evasion.

Petitioner Bhesh Raj Luitel claimed there was collusion and bad faith among former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, former Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal, and former Attorney General Savita Bhandari in the tax waiver case, alleging they knowingly enabled tax evasion worth billions of rupees.

Earlier, the court had ordered the Office of the Attorney General to appear with investigation records, prosecution decisions, and related documents from the Inland Revenue Department for discussions on the interim order.
