Major Cyberattack on Binance: Digital Assets Worth $6.3 Billion Affected

Banking Khabar / A cyberattack targeting Binance, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency trading platforms, has raised serious concerns about the security of digital assets. According to publicly available reports, crypto assets worth approximately USD 6.3 billion were affected in the incident.

Binance’s preliminary investigation suggests that attackers may have gained unauthorized access to the company’s internal systems through the laptop of one of its engineers. The access may have been used to carry out unauthorized digital asset transactions. The exact cause and method of the attack remain under investigation.

According to the company, nearly half of the affected assets have been frozen with assistance from other blockchain platforms and partner organizations. Efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining assets. Binance has pledged to bear any financial losses incurred by users as a result of the incident.

Following the cyberattack, Binance has prioritized security assessments of its systems. The company said that deposits and withdrawals have been temporarily suspended until the security of its systems is ensured. It is also working with law enforcement agencies and blockchain investigation firms to identify those responsible and recover the affected assets.

Crypto research firms TRM Labs and Chainalysis have assessed that the North Korea-linked hacking group known as ‘TraderTraitor’ may have been involved in the incident. However, Binance has not independently confirmed the identity of the attackers.

In 2025, cryptocurrency exchange Bybit suffered a cyberattack that resulted in the theft of approximately USD 1.5 billion worth of digital assets. The scale of the latest incident involving Binance appears significantly larger than that attack. The incident has renewed concerns about the cybersecurity measures and digital asset protection capabilities of cryptocurrency trading platforms.

Reports also indicate that the prices of major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, declined following news of the attack. The incident at a platform with a large global user base and substantial trading volume has once again highlighted the importance of technological security, internal access management and risk control in the digital financial system.
